Piedmont in Spring Tour Itinerary
Day One
Welcome to Turin
Welcome to regal, beautiful Turin. Did you know it was the first capital of Italy and home to the Royal family of Savoy? Arrive ‘con calma’ (the Italian way of doing things calmly, you’re on vacation after all) and check in at your hotel in the heart of the city in the early afternoon.
Once you are settled in, meet with the rest of your group and your tour host. We are off to explore this stunning regal city with our local guide on a walking tour through the city center, and past the Royal Palace, stopping to explore the gardens.
After seeing the Duomo, learning about the famous Shroud, and traversing through the oldest part of the town, it’s time to indulge in a favorite Italian past-time – aperitivo.
Do as the Torinese do and get to know the group over a glass of homemade vermouth with a tramezzino (delicious local sandwich) at one of the city’s historic and beautifully ornate cafés. We’ll then continue onto a traditional Piemontese dinner at a favorite local restaurant.
- ACTIVITIES: Turin walking tour
- MEALS: Welcome aperitivo, Dinner with wine
- ACCOMMODATION: Luxury 4 Star city hotel
Day Two
Chocolate and food markets
This morning kicks off with a walk through the largest open-air market in Europe – Porta Palazzo and enjoy watching the vendors spuik their local produce.
We then continue on towards a local chocolate factory where we get to step behind the curtain and learn just how they create the local Torinese ‘gianduiotti’ chocolates. They are simply delicious and it’s virtually impossible to eat just one.
Afterwards, in the mood for something sweet, we visit a renowned chocolate shop and stop for bicerin (Piemontese hot chocolate and coffee drink) in the oldest part of town.
You are free to explore the city for a few hours on your own after our sweet start to the day. Consider visiting one of Turin’s excellent museums (the Cinema Museum or Egyptian Museum), the Royal Palace, climb the landmark Mole, or enjoy lunch at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants.
Dinner tonight is at a Michelin guide restaurant renowned for its slightly modern take on the classics and focus on Slow Food ingredients (all grown locally).

Day Three
royal piedmont and cheese
Our day starts with a drive through endless vineyards lining the hills towards the picturesque town of La Morra but not before stopping at one of the most impressive castles you have ever seen.
Before we dive deep into the countryside, we visit a local distillery where we learn to craft our very own version of Turin’s famed aperitif – vermouth. Experiment with your preferred herbs to create a delicious concoction before hitting the road in search of cheese.
We visit a 100 year old family-run local cheesemonger in a small Piedmont town obsessed with cheese – so much so, that every two years the town runs an entire cheese festival. Our hosts show us their aging rooms and cheese museum before we sit down to a wonderful cheese filled tasting.
Then it’s off to our hotel to relax before our evening activity – cooking up a storm Piemonte style. Don an apron and roll up your sleeves as we step into a local Piemontese kitchen and learn the secrets of the cuisine, which, of course, includes traditional pasta making – tajarin or agnolotti del plin.
We reap the rewards of our cooking lesson with a delicious dinner and glasses of local wine. All enjoyed against the backdrop of the majestic green rolling hills in the Langhe of course.

After spending some time outdoors, we head to a family winery nearby where we enjoy a wine tasting with lunch. Tasting Barolo and understanding its traditions is one of the quintessential experiences of any time in Piedmont.
In the afternoon, we visit the official capital of Langhe – Alba. We meet our private tour guide for a walking tour through this truffle scented town. After learning more about its history, you have some free time to explore on your own, and we enjoy dinner together at a favorite restaurant in town.

We give you a day to remember forever during our final hours in the elegant, food paradise region of Piedmont. This morning, we set off to explore the Castle Grinzane Cavour. This fairytale castle, nestled amongst the vines, was constructed during the 11th century. Don’t forget your camera. The views of the surrounding countryside are jaw-dropping.
Before heading back to Turin, we make a stop past one of the borghi più belli d’Italia (the most beautiful villages in Italy) – and let us tell you, it really is gorgeous. After a walk through town we make our way to a family-run winery in Barbaresco wine land for a delicious farewell lunch.
If Barolo is considered the King of Italian wines, it must be said that Barbaresco is the Queen. Made from the same Nebbiolo grape but with a different style, we compare and contrast alongside some of the classic dishes of the region you’ve yet to discover, as well as other favorites you tasted during the week.
