Southern Tuscany Tour Itinerary
Day One
WELCOME TO SOUTHERN TUSCANY
Our adventure begins in the heart of Rome where we meet as a group to start our journey towards the beautiful southern Tuscan countryside. On the way, we make a stop at picturesque Civita di Bagnoregio village perched high on a hilltop. Step back in time as we stretch our legs, take some photos and enjoy gorgeous views of the surrounding valley.
After exploring this hidden gem of a town with Etruscan roots, we venture onwards to a family run organic farm right on the border between Umbria and Tuscany. Meet baby goats, hens, horses and sheep before we sit down to taste their freshly made cheese. Of course it’s paired with local Orvieto Classico wine that we enjoy as we get to know our new amici.
This afternoon we head to a gorgeous farmhouse nestled in the beautiful Orcia valley, our home base for the week. Unpack and relax – you have a week of untold magical Tuscany waiting for you starting with our welcome feast at the farmhouse. Buon appetito!

Day Two
SANT’ANTIMO ABBEY AND LOCAL WINE
This morning’s adventure starts with a visit to an ancient abbey nestled in the countryside that is famous for their monastic pharmacy that produces beautiful wellness products.
Built in the 12th century, the Abbey of Sant’Antimo has been inhabited by Benedictine monks for centuries. Today, you can still enjoy home made centuries-old herbal recipes of their honey, fruit jams, sweets, body care and herbal tea products.
Thirsty after our spiritual morning visit, we continue on to Montalcino – home to some of the most important red wines and stunning landscapes in all of Italy. We visit a local family-run winery that specializes in the production of Brunello di Montalcino, considered one of the most prestigious wines in Tuscany. We’ll sample the very best drops over a delicious local lunch at the winery.
After a tasty lunch and wine tasting, we have some free time back at our peaceful farmhouse.
This evening, prepare yourselves to learn the secrets to pizza at a local family-run farm. We enjoy a guided tour of their property before rolling up our sleeves and learning how to become a pizzaiolo. Buon appetito!

Day Three
ENCHANTING SIENA
Get off the beaten track this morning as we explore a stunning local town. This pretty hamlet is quintessential southern Tuscany thanks to its Medieval stone houses and cobbled laneways. Together we visit a historic 17th century villa and discover its intriguing history and stories.
Then it’s onwards to one of the jewels of Tuscany – the Medieval masterpiece Siena. Upon arrival we sit down to dine at one of our favorite local restaurants and enjoy a feast of traditional Sienese style cuisine. Tuscans love their traditions, but there’s perhaps no town that holds on to them quite as strongly as Siena thanks to the twice yearly Palio horse race around the town’s main piazza.
After lunch, we’ll learn all about this special race and why rivalries and alliances run so deep, even up to this very day, among the districts of Siena.
This evening, you have some free time to explore Siena further, go shopping and dine at one of their many fantastic restaurants and bars. We’ve got lots of favorite spots and can help you pick the perfect location for dinner or aperitivo.
- ACTIVITIES: Guided visit of a historic villa in San Quirico, Walking tour in Siena
- MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch with wine

Day Four
A DAY OF WELLNESS
Experience complete relaxation this morning as we visit a nearby town famed for thermal waters. Rich in calcium, iron and zinc, the terme or thermal baths are renowned for their healing properties and have been enjoyed by locals and visitors for centuries.
Here you have the choice to spend the day at a luxury private spa center where you can swim in one of three pools, book in for a massage or enjoy the sauna. Alternatively, choose to explore the town and nearby countryside on a guided e-bike tour. If neither option sounds quite your style, there are plenty of little shops and restaurants to explore in town during your free time.
Rested and rejuvenated after your soak or ride, we have some time to freshen up at our farmhouse before venturing back to town for a special dinner. From pappardelle with fresh mushrooms, to wild boar stew, there are so many delicious things to enjoy. Sip on a glass of local wine, dive into your by now favorite Tuscan dishes, and reflect on the beauty of southern Tuscany with newfound friends.

A COOKING CLASS AND MAGICAL GARDEN
After tasting so many delicious dishes, it’s time we learn to recreate them for ourselves. This morning, we head to a very special local home for a cooking class and lunch like no other.
Our hosts delight in telling stories of their home and sharing local Tuscan recipes. Roll up your sleeves as we learn to make a four course Tuscan meal including traditional local pasta. Later we sit down to taste our creations with matching wines and enjoy an incredible view.
In the afternoon we head to the very special garden of a Renaissance era home. Stretch your legs and stroll the lawns as we soak up the stunning views over the hills of Tuscany during our private tour.
During our Spring tours, we whisk you away for a short drive to a local flower farm. We’ll enjoy a guided visit through the garden, and pick a small selection of flowers together, before sitting down to an apericena (light dinner) with typical products overlooking a stunning view.
Instead in the fall, we visit a local biodynamic farm that produces beer and honey. We’ll learn more about their organic approach to farming and of course try their tasty local Tuscan beers and some of their produce over apericena.

Made from Sangiovese grapes, we learn about (and taste) the very best and enjoy plum, cherry, and olive aromas. Take in the stunning view of the vineyards and olive trees during our visit as we pair the wine with a mouthwatering local lunch.
Ready to stretch our legs after lunch, we journey to cheese-obsessed paradise Pienza. Designed as a ‘utopia’, we wander the pretty streets that all have romantic street names as the smell of pecorino cheese follows us everywhere.
All good things must come to an end, but not before we fulfil your Tuscan dreams of cruising the countryside in a vintage Fiat 500. Departing from Pienza, we drive through the cypress lined hills of this picturesque corner of Tuscany. There are plenty of photo stops along the way including one at a beautiful Medieval borgo.
Later in the afternoon we have some time to relax, unwind and pack our bags before a memorable farewell dinner at our lovely farmhouse. We hear bistecca Fiorentina and super Tuscan wines are on the menu – buonissimo!

The one-time residence of the noble Orsini and the infamous Borgia families, we meet our local guide for a private tour of the castle. Take a peek into the wedding apartment of Paolo Giordano Orsini and Isabella de’ Medici, which is usually closed to the public.
Fascinated with the tales of the Borgias, we sit down to a final lunch together and reflect on our week in southern Tuscany. Leave with hearts full of love for this extraordinary part of the world, and a newfound appreciation for the everlasting traditions that make Tuscany so special.
